As a result of our endless pursuit of quality and excellence, we acquired a new cinema camera to add to our camera lineup.
In Houston, as you may know, cinema cameras are hard to come by, and renting a high-end cinema-quality camera is nearly impossible; they’re just not available. So, we needed a better option than renting cinema cameras in Houston.
We needed to purchase a high-end quality cinema camera.
The Need To Upgrade
Due to the proliferation of 4K (and higher) video resolution, we figured it was the right time to make a move and upgrade from mirrorless and DSLR cameras to a full-fledged cinema camera.
The differences between cinema cameras and the cameras we normally use are related to color quality, color space (4-2-0 vs. 4-2-2 vs. 4-4-4), low light performance, overall sharpness, bit depth, color depth, and much more than we care to explain in a blog post. (It also has dedicated networking & live-streaming options.)
A cinema camera is of a quality that’s acceptable for NetFlix approved videos, Hollywood, and, of course, television.
In short, we upgraded to serve our clients better, produce higher quality video content, and to take VizTV Media Services up a few levels as a premier video production company in Houston.
Our New Camera
The Canon EOS C300 Mark III
One of the new cameras we acquired was the Canon EOS C300 Mark III of the Canon Cinema line. We received the camera back in July of 2020, so we’ve had enough time to get comfortable with it.
I have to say that the camera is quite impressive and gives us capabilities that we’ve never had. We’re now able to produce high-quality 12-Bit 4K video, extremely smooth slow-motion footage at 120 frames per second in 4K quality. We also have the added confidence of knowing we can better operate in low light conditions with minimal video-noise while retaining highlights. I’d say we’ve upgraded well.
